Brett R. Smith, M.D.

Brett R. Smith, M.D., M.S. is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon sub-specializing in Adult Reconstructive Surgery, specifically total hip and knee joint-replacement. His practice encapsulates all aspects of arthritis, including conservative care and surgical management options. Dr. Smith utilizes the most up to date technology to help deliver patient care, and is currently advancing the field of implant design with his extensive background in Biomedical and Materials Engineering

Dr. Smith joined The Andrews Institute from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he served as an attending physician involved in resident training. Prior to Allegheny General Hospital, Dr. Smith relocated from The Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders in Phoenix, Arizona, where he served as co-director for the Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship program. He also held a position with the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys, California.

Dr. Smith completed his fellowship at The Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders, and he completed his residency and internship in Orthopaedic Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital after receiving his medical degree from MCP-Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He earned his master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California at San Diego, and he earned his bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.

Dr Smith is certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Currently he is highly involved with teaching orthopaedic felllows at The Andrews Institute as well as surgeons across the country on new implant design, surgical approaches, and surgical techniques.

Dr. Smith lives in Gulf Breeze with his wife and two children. His interests include snowboarding, bass fishing, camping, and art. Vacations away necessitate trips to complete his real outdoor passion, surfing.
