BARRY S. CALLAHAN, M.D.

Barry S. Callahan, MD.

Dr. Barry S. Callahan is Board Certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification for Surgery of the Hand. He specializes in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery. He is licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.

Dr. Callahan completed a Fellowship in Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the renowned Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis, Indiana under the direction of James W. Strickland, MD. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center and affiliated hospitals in Indianapolis. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to this he graduated Cum Laude from King College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was granted a Presidential Scholarship and was a member of the Golf team and on the Dean's List.

Dr. Callahan is affiliated with Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospital and The Andrews Institute Surgery Center. He treats all congenital, traumatic and acquired conditions of the Hand, Wrist, and Elbow as well as reconstructive microsurgery of the limbs including replantation and vascularized tissue transfer. He has a major interest in sports related conditions in the upper extremity.

Prior to joining Andrews Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Center, Dr. Callahan was Assistant Professor of Orthopedics in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was a member of The Vanderbilt Hand Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Following this he was a member of Premier Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and was the Director of the Premier Orthopaedics Hand Center. Additional professional experience included serving as the Founder and Director of the Southern Microsurgical Research Laboratory while in practice at Southern Bone and Joint Specialists in Dothan, Alabama, and Contributing Editor of The Indiana Hand Center Newsletter. He has served on numerous hospital related committees including Ethics, Credentials, and Surgery Advisory Committees.

Dr. Callahan is a member if the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and various state and local medical, orthopaedic and hand surgery societies.
